Liverpool-based craft-brewer Cains has teamed up with the godfather of pop art Sir Peter Blake, designer of The Beatles' Sgt Pepper album sleeve, to launch a limited edition bottle of its premium British lager.

 

The 'Best of British' inspired label features the Union Jack and kicks off Cains' support of Liverpool's Capital of Culture 08 activities as official beer sponsor.

 

Sir Peter, who is often cited as the founder of British pop art, rose to fame in the 1960s. His works include cover art for The Beatles and the creation of the logo for Live Aid in the 80's. His iconic Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band cover was recently reproduced using famous Liverpudlians as part of the city's Capital of Culture celebrations. 

 

The limited edition Cains Finest Lager bottle will launch for sale this month (February) and be available nationally throughout 2008.

 

Sir Peter Blake said: "Cains Brewery and its beers are woven into the history and culture of Liverpool. Many of the city's heritage pubs were built by Cains and form part of the company's enduring legacy.

 

"I'm excited about the dynamism that Cains has under its owners and delighted to be involved in their celebrations during 2008."

 

Cains is producing the limited edition lager for the whole year to celebrate Liverpool’s success in being the European Capital of Culture 2008. The bottles will be available for sale in most stores across the North West and via the Cains website (www.cains.co.uk). Limited edition posters are also being produced showing the striking bottle set against a Union Jack backdrop. 

 

Cains chief executive Sudarghara Dusanj said: "Sir Peter Blake is one of country's best loved artists and, through his work with the Beatles, has built a strong affiliation with Liverpool so we couldn't think of anyone better to create our limited edition 'Best of British' bottle. The final design is truly striking and is the perfect complement to our 'Best of British' activity.

 

Cains is official beer of Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008 and sponsor of Britain’s Tate Galleries. The Finest Lager is crafted by Cains’ master brewers using the finest Maris otter malt from Norfolk and Saaz aroma hops to create a wonderful sensory experience, smooth in taste and full in flavour.
